CADAVERIA is the creative alter-ego of Italian extreme metal singer Raffaella Rivarolo, better known as Cadaveria—one of the first women to break into the extreme metal scene in the early ’90s.
The band was founded in 2001 by Cadaveria and drummer Marçelo Santos to freely channel their vision as musicians and extreme artists. Since the debut album The Shadows’ Madame (2002), their style has been defined as Horror Metal: a concept that transcends boundaries, blending black metal, heavy metal, doom, gothic, and even touches of prog, to create a unique and deeply atmospheric soundscape.
Lyrically, CADAVERIA’s work is introspective, poetic, and hermetic—mirroring the soul, personality, and spiritual path of its frontwoman. Over the years, their career has produced five full-length albums, three reissues, an EP with Necrodeath, and a retrospective double DVD, along with a loyal fanbase particularly strong in Central America, where they headlined multiple tours between 2007 and 2015. From 2012 to 2017, the albums Horror Metal and Silencefueled extensive live activity across Russia, Germany, France, Belgium, Romania, and Italy, sharing stages with acts such as Cradle of Filth and Arch Enemy.
After a long hiatus during which Cadaveria underwent cancer treatment, the band returned on October 2nd, 2020 with the single Return (a cover of Deine Lakaien). Four more singles—Matryoshcada, Divination, Shamanic Path, and The Woman Who Fell to Earth—were released between December 2020 and June 2021. These tracks, alongside seven new songs, converged in the 2022 album Emptiness (Time To Kill Records): a majestic, definitive work sealing both the artistic and human journey of CADAVERIA.
