Bio:
Formed in 1983 by Killjoy, NECROPHAGIA stand as one of the founding fathers of death metal, alongside Possessed and Death. Their debut Season of the Dead (1987) became a cult release in the underground, laying down the blueprint for what would later be known as gore metal. Despite their early impact, the band split the same year, leaving behind a legacy that only grew with time.
In the mid-1990s, Philip Anselmo (Pantera, Down), a longtime horror fanatic, convinced Killjoy to resurrect NECROPHAGIA. Together, they released the landmark album Holocausto de la Morte (1998), followed by The Divine Art of Torture (2003) and several EPs. NECROPHAGIA became synonymous with the fusion of extreme metal and horror imagery, pioneering a sound enriched by sinister atmospheres and eerie movie samples.
Further experimentation marked Harvest Ritual Vol. 1 (2005), while Deathtrip 69 (2011) pushed their vintage horror aesthetic even further. In 2014, the band unleashed WhiteWorm Cathedral, a chilling masterpiece that would unknowingly become their swansong.
On March 18, 2018, the metal world mourned the passing of Killjoy Desade, the visionary frontman known as the Godfather of Gore Metal. NECROPHAGIA’s influence continues to echo through generations of extreme music fans, cementing their place as a cornerstone of the death metal genre.
