Bio
Death Dies was founded in 1995 in Padova by Samael Von Martin (founder of cult black metal band EVOL) and Demian De Saba (then drummer of Sweet End’s Angels). The project set out to merge the ferocity of black metal with progressive, folk, and cinematic elements inspired by Goblin, aiming to create a one-act conceptual experience.
After early releases including the MCD “Ancient Abbey” and the split “When Death Died” (1998, with Satanel), the band began to establish its unique voice. Their 7” “The Art of Domination” (1999), featuring soprano Giovanna Dabalà, marked another milestone. In 2002, their debut album “The Sound of Demons” was released via Black Tears of Death and quickly sold out.
Throughout the 2000s, Death Dies maintained an intense live presence while releasing “Product of Hate” (2003), “Pseudochristos” (2006, Adipocere Records), and contributing to reissues and splits. The 2011 album “Project Negatron: Tenebre” brought a darker, more ossianic sound, while “Legione” (2015) revisited classics from EVOL, Death Dies, and Satanel.
A revitalized line-up in 2019 saw the band working on new material, including the single “Impero” (2020, Morbid Vision), followed by a pause due to the pandemic. In 2021, vocalist Viktor Flamel joined, and Death Dies began recording their new full-length.
In 2022, the band resumed live activity and completed mixing at Deadferro Audio Studio Project. By year’s end, they signed with Time To Kill Records for the release of their latest album “Stregoneria”, set to arrive in summer 2023, marking a new chapter in their legacy of Italian black metal.
