Qwälen took its final form in 2017. The members share a passion for music in its rawest expressions, with backgrounds in bands such as Kürøishi, Nistikko, Dumathoin, and Akma among others. Their punk roots bleed into their black metal, connecting Qwälen’s vision directly to the primal origins of the genre. Simplicity, rawness, speed, and honestydefined the band at the start—and still remain the core values today. On stage, their live shows erupt with the chaotic energy of hardcore punk colliding with the ritualistic essence of black metal.
The debut album’s lyrical themes explored self-portrayal, loss, renewal, abandonment, misanthropy, and Satan. Their second album reflects on humanity’s sheep-like nature, inevitable destruction, acceptance of flaws, and surrender to a greater force.
Their album Syvä hiljaisuus was recorded at Waiting Room Recording Studio in Tampere with Mikael Neves (known for work with Death Toll 80k and Tryer), who also mixed the record. Mastering was completed by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios.
